A YouThrive Programme
School-Based Life Skills and Wellbeing Programme
YouThrive Schools strengthens Life Orientation through structured sessions on identity, mental wellbeing, health literacy, safety, healthy relationships, career planning and future readiness, delivered by registered social workers.
South African learners face pressures no subject period can solve alone.
Self Identity & Personal Development
Many learners enter adolescence without the confidence, self-awareness or sense of purpose needed to navigate relationships, make healthy decisions and plan for the future.
Mental Wellbeing
Anxiety, stress, depression and emotional distress are increasingly affecting learners, often without access to timely support or safe spaces to talk.
Health Literacy & Sexual and Reproductive Health
Learners are expected to make important decisions about their health, HIV, sexuality, relationships and future wellbeing, often without the information or confidence to do so safely.
Safety & Relationships
Violence, coercion, bullying and unhealthy relationships continue to shape the lives of many young people. Prevention and early support must start before harm occurs.
Learning & School Engagement
Many learners struggle with motivation, resilience and a sense of belonging at school, increasing the risk of disengagement and poor educational outcomes.
Future Readiness
Subject choices, tertiary education pathways, career planning and the transition to adulthood leave many learners uncertain about what comes next.
A delivery platform, not just another curriculum.
YouThrive Schools is a school-based Life Skills and Wellbeing programme that strengthens Life Orientation through structured, age-appropriate sessions delivered by registered social workers.
The programme equips learners with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to navigate adolescence, make informed decisions and prepare for life beyond school.
Rather than focusing on a single issue, YouThrive Schools brings together personal development, mental wellbeing, health literacy, sexual and reproductive health, safety, healthy relationships, career guidance and future planning into one integrated learner support programme.
Four building blocks for learner success.
Learners build a strong foundation in Life Skills and Wellbeing before progressing through health, safety and career readiness themes that prepare them for life beyond school.
Life Skills & Wellbeing
Identity, self-awareness, resilience, emotional wellbeing, decision-making, communication and healthy relationships.
YouThrive Health
HIV literacy, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, mental wellbeing and health-seeking behaviour.
YouThrive Safe
Consent, gender-based violence prevention, healthy relationships and personal safety.
YouThrive Careers
Career guidance, subject choices, tertiary education preparedness, work readiness and future planning.
More than a lesson plan. A support system.
YouThrive Schools strengthens Life Orientation by combining structured learner sessions with professional social work support. Learners gain practical life skills while schools benefit from additional capacity to identify concerns, provide early intervention and connect vulnerable learners to appropriate services.
The programme is designed to support the whole learner, recognising that academic success is closely linked to wellbeing, safety, health literacy and future readiness.
By integrating personal development, health education, safeguarding and career guidance into one structured approach, schools are equipped with a practical solution that responds to the realities learners face every day.
Unlike many school-based programmes, YouThrive Schools is facilitated by registered social workers (SACSSP).
They can identify psychosocial concerns, provide first-line support, engage caregivers where appropriate and connect learners to relevant services when needed.
This transforms every session into both a learning opportunity and a potential safeguarding touchpoint.
What learners gain.
Greater self-awareness, emotional regulation and confidence in decision-making.
Improved health literacy and confidence to make informed health decisions.
Knowledge and skills to recognise, prevent and respond to unsafe situations and relationships.
