The cost is real — high youth unemployment, barriers to post-school education and training for many academically eligible young people, dropped courses, mismatched careers, and years lost to work that doesn’t fit. Career guidance can’t be a luxury. It has to be part of how every learner grows up.

Who is YouThrive Careers for?
YouThrive Careers supports learners and young people at important transition points, including subject selection, matric, post-school planning and the move into further study, training or work.
How does YouThrive Careers work?
The programme follows four connected stages: Discover, Explore, Decide and Thrive. Learners build self-awareness, investigate possible pathways, make informed decisions and develop a practical plan for what comes next.
What is a Career Colour?
A Career Colour is a learner-friendly way of exploring interests, strengths and preferred ways of engaging with the world of work. Based on the John Holland career-interest framework, it includes six broad areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional. Most people identify with a combination of colours.
Can YouThrive Careers be delivered at our school?
Yes. Structured career guidance can be delivered directly at schools through a paid programme that may include facilitated assessments, counselling, pathway exploration and future-planning workshops.
Can parents book a career assessment for their child?
Yes. Parents and guardians can access professional career assessments, personalised guidance and educational planning through the YouThrive Career Guidance Centre in eThekwini or online. Services can be viewed and booked through the Career Guidance Centre website .
Is the programme available online?
Yes. Virtual career assessments and professional guidance are available online, allowing learners to access services regardless of their location.
How does the programme support subject choices?
Learners are supported to connect their strengths, interests and possible career pathways with suitable school subjects. Guidance also considers post-school entry requirements so learners understand how their current choices may affect future opportunities.
Does the programme only focus on university pathways?
No. YouThrive Careers explores a range of pathways, including university, TVET education, occupational training, learnerships, apprenticeships and entry into the world of work. The focus is on identifying a realistic pathway that fits the learner.
How is programme impact measured?
Depending on the delivery model, monitoring may include participation, completion of assessments and activities, learner feedback, and changes in self-awareness, career literacy, decision-making confidence and future planning.
